One Month and the Pinewood Derby

The highlights of this weeks were two-fold (and the shocker is that one of the highlights isn't even Elsie related).  One of the highlights this week is that Elsie celebrated the one month milestone.  I commented to Merrick that I couldn't believe she was already a month old and asked him if he felt like she had been a part of our family for a whole month.  He responded that it felt more like 40 million years.  I guess kid's sense of time can be a little different than adult's.  In any case it has been a month and we managed to get a few (not so great) pictures on the day.  Next time I won't wait until late in the day when we are tired to try for pictures (or maybe I will..being a mom to a newborn is hard).

The other highlight was the Pinewood Derby.  Our family participated in a ward derby a few years back, but now that Merrick is in scouts, this was his first official derby.  He and Jeremy (mostly Jeremy) had worked really hard on his Jeff Gordon Pepsi car and Merrick was really anxious for race day.  Jeremy by no means considers himself a Pinewood Derby expert and says that anytime the car makes it all the way down the track it is a victory, but make it down the track the car did.  Each car got to participate in 6 heats and Merrick's car won two of its heats and never did worse than third place.  I think Jeremy sold himself short and may have to raise the bar for what he considers a victory for next year.  Merrick was really happy with the results and even won a certificate for "The Most Carbonated Car".  Carrigan was happy to get to cheer on her brother, stay up late, and eat all the popcorn her little heart desired.  It was a good night.
